Gum Disease Treatment
50% of patients have gingivitis or gum disease. Here at Dr. Vo’s we work with patients individually as their personal dental coach. Since each patient’s needs are different we customize your care accordingly.
Plaque and biofilm adheres to the surface of teeth on a daily basis. In the beginning stages, the food and bacteria that make up plaque are soft. This can be brushed and flossed off. Any routine areas that are missed allow the plaque to harden and culture bacterial colonies on the teeth, usually next to the gums. Gums become irritated and inflamed which signal gum disease progression. We can remove the hardened plaque and return this tissue to a state of health.
The latest research has indicated a significant correlation between oral health and the health of the entire body. By maintaining and preventing oral disease patients are able to lower their risk for heart disease, stroke and other debilitating conditions. For example, we can prevent the spread of disease using antibiotics directly to the site of the infection. This product, used here, is called Arestin. By applying Arestin to a diseased area we are able to halt the progression of more advanced infection.
